A Superb Collection of Lovecraft Readings
Signed up just to say "thank you!" for putting this collection together. I stumbled across some of these readings when I downloaded a large torrent archive of Lovecraft audiobook material years ago, and got to really liking this particular narrator's delivery.
It was only recently that I finally managed to put a name to the narrator: Gordon Gould, seemingly a veteran of radio dramas. It's clearly from some large box-set of cassettes (many references to turning the tape over, etc.) but I can't seem to find a record of the original cassette release on Discogs. Shame, because I wouldn't mind tracking down an original copy one day...
I think the book's original publication date is 1965, but I found reference online to Gordon Gould having released several voice recordings for cassette in the mid/late 80s - and there's reference to "1986" in the introduction (at 1:15) so I think the release-date of this audio is around that time.
Funnily enough, one of the main reasons why I like these particular recordings so much is because they sound quite "vintage" - like something from the 1950s - and that seems to suit the material well.
That "vintage" sound quality may just be a side-effect of the recordings floating around the internet as heavily-compressed MP3 files, but that's the way I'm used to hearing them and I like it :)
Anyway, thanks for putting this together - I was setting out on a mission to try to assemble as many of these recordings as I could, but it looks like you've already done all that hard work and shared the results. I've only heard about half of what's here, so many thanks for doing this.
